Towards the end of last year I signed up to my very first quilting bee; The Bee Hive organised by Blossom Heart Quilts. All in the bracket of learning as per usual.
The Bee Hive is a collection, or swarm, of quilters who spend a month as host, queen bee, who direct their bees to make a quilt block in a specific style. Creating a quilt at the end of it, you have to be in it a year so you can all have a quilt from blocks made by your swarm.
My swarm is a European based swarm and we are all making two blocks each month for our Bee. I’m not a Queen until October but I figured I would show you the blocks I make each month. The first one up is for Nicole who has asked for the Quatrefoil block.
This is a brilliant block by Clover and Violet and is really sweetly put together. At 12″ square it was fun to build. Nicole was super organised and sent us colour swatches in the post so we knew what colour fabric to choose. Then emailed us an example of what colour layout for us to follow.
Here are both my blocks:
I didn’t quite have enough fabric to do both blocks the same so I mixed up the blocks to create two slightly different blocks:
I’m really happy with them and I got a thank you from Nicole too so I think that’s a thumbs up! I can’t wait to see The Bee Hive quilt finished!! Oh, I also sent a little extra present in the form of this keyring I made from scraps:
I’ll write a blog post on these soon! They’re ace!!
Can’t wait to see what next month brings…
