My favourite cookbook of the moment is The Baby Led Weaning Cookbook. Anything I have made from this goes down well with both Robot and Dave. This recipe comes from this book, I have slightly adapted it here, but seriously go and buy the book! Here is loads more credit to Gill Rapley and Tracey Murkett.
- 225g Macaroni
- 25g Butter
- 25g Plain flour
- 300ml milk
- 50-100g cheese grated
- Worcestershire sauce to taste
- 1/2 tsp Nutmeg
- 40g bread grumbs
- 10 Cherry Toms halved
Heat the Oven to 200c. Cook the pasta according to the instructions on the packet. Make the sauce; melt the butter in a pan and stir in the flour, cook gently for 2 minutes until it starts to bubble. Remove pan from the heat and gradually add the milk stirring constantly. Return the pan to the heat, keep stirring till thickened. Add most of the cheese until it is well melted. Add Worcestershire sauce and nutmeg if you want. Tip in the cooked pasta and mix well
Pour the mixture into an oven proof dish. Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top, along with the breadcrumbs and tomatoes. Cook in the oven for 10-20 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and beginning to turn brown.
Probably the most difficult thing about baby led weaning is the sudden lack of eating one day and eating loads the next! I really thought the Robot would wolf this down. He loves pasta and sauces, I thought a cheese sauce would work. He had a munch but didn’t go crazy like he has done with other meals recently.
We served this with a side salad and I definitely recommend the bread crumbs and cheese on top. Overall a nice meal, I’ve had cheesier macaroni that is nicer!
#ABC123 is a challenge I have set myself to complete 26 weeks of posts, every week a different letter of the alphabet. This week was the letter M.
