Play Your Home-Made Guitar

The Robot loves his maracas and he loves a good drum on anything he can hit.  Now it’s time to introduce string, more importantly my home-made guitar.   All you need is a baking tin and elastic bands.  Put bands on the tin and ta da you have a guitar!  Hand it to the baby and see what happens…

CAUTION: Do not leave your baby alone with this!  Within moments of handing him his new toy he’d pulled one of the bands off, I intervened, and then I got hit in the leg by the second band that came off.  Oh my, did that hurt, I’ve got a bruise to show for it!  A solution that I’ve since came up with, tape the bands to the tin.  It does makes a really cool noise, I’ve got different size bands and each makes a different sound.

It may not be the best toy for a nine month old but in a few months time, when I try it again, I am sure it will be greatly appreciated!

Do you have any other brilliant DIY toy ideas? Please let me know in the comments, I’d love to try some.

#ABC123 is a challenge I have set myself to complete 26 weeks of posts, every week a different letter of the alphabet.  This week was the letter G.

  1. I love this! I
My son adores guitars, I hadn’t thought about the joys of elastic bands…I used to have hours of fun with instruments like this!
I hadn’t heard of the abc challenge, sounds interesting and hard work!….am I not following you? I thought I was, purely rhetorical, I’ll go and find out now. #pocolo

Haha, I’m enjoying the different meals I’m creating! It’s a challenge I came up with! Not that I’m following it as I’d planned! Don’t worry if you weren’t following me! I lose track all the time!!

  2. What a great idea! I never thought of putting together something like this. It’s so simple but great fun! The only thing I did was put rice in a plastic bottle to create a shaker – does that count?

Thank you for linking up to #KCACOLS and I hope to see you back again on Sunday x

  3. My little boy would love this! I’ll have to try it tomorrow, he likes to bash and push and pull stuff, he’s a rowdy little mite. I’ll take your advice with the tape too!
