Lets All Go to the Zoo

Lets All Go to the Zoo

Maybe not all of us…  The Robot and I have purchased an annual pass to our local Zoo The Lakeland Wildlife Oasis.  It’s only 20 minutes up the road and as zoos go it’s not that big.  We can walk round it in an hour.  I imagine when the Robot starts toddling and wants to walk, it will take longer.

By getting an annual pass though it means we can just pop up and see some animals and come home again.   We’ve been 3 times now and each time we’ve arrived at a different talk time so we’re slowly getting to know about different animals.

Our top favourites are the Lemurs, meerkats, Marmosets, squirrels and Snow Leopards.   Normally the Snow Leopards are sleeping, but if you get there at talk time then you get to see them in action.  Such beautiful creatures.

The Lemurs are in an open viewing cage and you can go inside and watch them.  They are a cheeky bunch and every time we’ve been they have climbed all over us.  Thankfully I’ve not taken any food in with me as they’d be very interested in it!   If you’ve ever had a Lemur lick your leg then you’ve not lived.

The Marmosets are teeny tiny Monkeys, the first time we visited the Zoo the Robot laughed out loud at them.  It was so cute and I am a proud Mummy for that giggle.

You can’t miss the Meerkats, they’ve had babies recently and they are cute little fluff balls.  The Meerkat den has a tunnel you can crawl in to and look out.  I’ve yet to go in it but as soon as the Robot is a toddling I’ll go in there with him.

The best thing about going to zoo is how interesting the zoo is to the Robot.   He’s always alert and pointing at the animals.  I hope that he has the same love of zoos as me when he’s older.  On our list trip we made a little video for you:

As a special treat for the Robot I ordered a photo book of the different animals at the Zoo.  Each page has an animal and the text of the animal. As we will be spending the year visiting the zoo I hope that the Robot will get to know them.  I am really impressed with it, it’s a book all for him:

#ABC123 is a challenge I have set myself to complete 26 weeks of posts, every week a different letter of the alphabet.  This week is the letter Z for Zoo.

  1. I love it when you can get an annual pass to somewhere you know you will love over and over. It really makes a difference being able to just go somewhere for a few hours and not have to make a whole day out of it. We love a trip to the zoo, but we have been to one in a while. I love seeing their little faces trying to work out what the animals are and are doing! Thank you for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove x

  2. We used to have an open pass for the zoo too. We bought it as a birthday present for little man one year. It was brilliant! We loved the ring tailed Lemurs too. Thanks for linking up with #ablogginggoodtime

  3. Ah, we love the zoo too! What a fabulous little zoo to have so close by – and I love how interactive it sounds, being able to crawl in and get up close to the animals. Archie would love that. I hope you continue to enjoy your visits to the zoo, you can’t beat it!! #Triballove

  4. I wish we had a zoo a bit closer! We took Max for his 2nd birthday and he absolutely loved seeing all the animals. This one looks great – I love anywhere where you can get up close with lemurs, they’re my favourite! I love the photobook idea too – he’s going to be so good at naming all the animals! Thanks so much for joining us again at #SharingtheBlogLove

  5. We have been thinking of getting an annual season ticket to our local zoo…they have water sprinklers too so thought it would be a nice thing for Emma and as you say, we can just waltz in any time we like! I love your pics, such great one and you got so close 🙂 The photobook is a fantastic idea, I’m starting to think of ideas too to make a start at the animal learning. Fab post xx #ablogginggoodtime

ooo a water park too, that sounds like a great zoo. I sort of wish I put a bit more time into the photobook now. I snuck a few pictures of Daddy, Mummy and Gran in too and he likes to flip to the Daddy page when he’s at work!
