My First Baby Clothes sounds like it’s going to be some sort of weird nostalgic post showing you some clothes from 30 something years ago. Do not panic there is no thrills here. What is though is my first step into making baby clothes!!
One of my goals this year was to sew some clothes for the kids, mainly baby clothes for CABS.
My sewing machine is cheap and cheerful and about 15 years old without a service and heavy use! I’m ashamed I’ve not looked after her. This being said she works. What I can’t do is neat seams for clothes so I wanted a pattern where I could hide the horrors of my stitching.
I found this pattern by Puperita for a reversible romper suit. The age goes from newborn to 6 years old so I can make romper for the best part of a decade!! What’s better still the pattern comes with pretty awesome instructions so my limited clothes making experience makes sewing it together a doddle!
Check out these for a romper suit:
The pattern is so us with words like “love nature”, “be yourself” and “smile”. Plus all the cute little pictures… not to be gender specific I also made them boy/girl friendly with blue and pink colours!
I had a load of fabric left over so I decided to make a hat with some. I’d been playing with one of my buffs/snood from my cycling days as a make shift hat for CABS. It made such a neat hat I decided to make her one with her material. It’s just one long tube of fabric and so easy to do:
Plus with baby wearing it fits snug to her head so out and about it doesn’t fall off. It’s going to make back carrying in the summer ideal!
Everyone has said they love them so far so I’m excited to do something more soon. Maybe not in this fabric and maybe not dungarees. I’ll have to wait until I have some pennies to go fabric shopping… We shall see someday soon..
The romper suit is really cute. I have been thinking about getting a sewing machine for ages now as I would love to make myself steampunk clothes, but I’m a bit hesitant as ive not used one since I was at school. #familyfunlinky

Thanks Tracey. I say go for it! I’m completely self taught on the machine and have gleamed tips on line and from my mum along the way, but the actual using it was all me. You have the mindset to make it work as you make your beautiful crochet creations! K
The romper is so cute, I have always wanted to learn how to sew but never got round to it #FamilyFunLinky

She’s a happy one that’s for sure
This is such a lovely little outfit. You must be so proud to create something so unique and special for your little one #familyfun
Definitely proud
Oh wow, that romper is just so cute! My mom used to make kids clothes to sell on a market stall and always remember the kitchen table covered with fabrics and white chalk, I was always amazed at how they magically became clothes. I attempted a skirt for myself once and it was a complete failure so I never attempted it again
