Edible Painting with your Baby!

My chosen Play activity this week is Edible Painting.  I must be mad.

You make edible paint with corn flour, water and food colouring.  I used 100g of corn flour.  Heat up some water so it’s warm in the kettle.  In a pan on the stove put the cornflour on a low heat, add water gradually and whisk/stir continuously.  The mixture will start to thicken up like custard, once it is nice and thick you can let it cool.  Add drops of food colouring to make your colours.  I only had red, yellow and blue so mixed colours to make orange, green and purple! Trial & error.

I set up the lounge with a table cloth that I could throw away at the end and made it look rather pretty!  Here is the Robot oblivious to the fact that he is about to get involved in some messy play…

Edible Paint - The calm before the storm

Now I’m not stupid, I was pretty sure that the Robot was going to get really messy, so I stripped him off to a nappy.  I just wasn’t prepared for him to be head to toe covered in the stuff.  Thankfully the paint is edible as all the Robot was interested in was eating it.  The concept of putting hands on paper was alien to him, he just wanted to eat the paper too!  We did one colour at a time with me waving the paper in front of him to grab at a bit.   Sorry for the blurry image, I got covered in paint too so I struggled to get any good pictures.  It was all good fun and we went straight to the bathroom for a bath once done.

I did most of it!

#ABC123 is a challenge I have set myself to complete 26 weeks of posts, every week a different letter of the alphabet.  This week was the letter E.

  1. This looks brilliant! I love all your ideas for activities and things, I can’t wait for TM to get a bit bigger so we can try all these things. I might do this one outdoors in the summer though! #FamilyFun
