BakerDays 5″ Letter Box Cake

Baker Days 5″ Letter Box Cake

When Baker Days asked me if I’d like to try their 5″ Letter Box Cake for a little review, I thought, hey why not, it is cake after all!  I ordered my cake, then promptly decided to go on holiday, oops.  The entire time I was in Scotland I had the cake on my mind.  Wondering if it will be okay?  Had it made it? I just had to keep reminding myself, it’s a letterbox cake.  It will be safely on my doorstep awaiting for me when I get home.  Thankfully only a few days later!

Beyond excited, I believe I skipped to my front door when we got home, to my despair a red Royal Mail collection card was in its place.  Damn, no cake before the unpacking!  No worries though, I arrived home on a Thursday and the post office is 5 minutes away.  arriving home, again, I pushed the white box through my letter box, a small victory against Royal Mail!  I inspected the contents…

Cake in tin with card, candles and balloons around it.

Luckily Baker Days package their cakes well, the cake comes in a special breathable tin and sealed cake.  It’s also great to note that it survived the extra wait while I was away, no mould here!  An added touch being the party balloons and card in the package too, nice gift for a loved one!   Not having a birthday any time soon I took the liberty of picking a design and Robot branding it.  I think you can literally do anything with these cakes… Ryan Gosling?

I don’t know what possessed me, I didn’t eat any of the cake the day I arrived home.  I waited patiently till the next day.  Cake for breakfast anyone?   I swear I only had a sliver, then another but I couldn’t help it, it was tasty, and it was for the purpose of the review…

That evening though Dave & I finished it off for pudding, he came to the same conclusion as me…  Over all, I was very pleased with the service, the cake itself tasted nice and keeps well.  The price of the cake is £14.99 and recommended portion is for 3-4 people.  At only 5″ it doesn’t feel like a lot, but if you chuck in the service, the tin, candles, balloons and cards, it’s more than worth it.   If I was stuck for a gift for someone I would definitely buy one, it put a smile on my face, I’m sure it would do for anyone!

Amazing idea, who’d have thought sending cake through the post would work! I’d really love to win this, my babies would love to receive their own cake through the letter box (or from the royal mail sorting office…). I’m a new follower and loving your blog!

  2. I can’t believe the restraint you have shown! I’ve entered your giveaway, I think I am obsessed with cake. Love that the Robot is on the cake and has his own cake badge, super cute!! Why do postmen not put things through the letterbox when they clearly fit?! Silly!

  3. All these cake reviews make me so hungry for cake! Boo for the red card but Hooray for it still being just as fresh even after its extended stay at Royalmail!!! And loving the robot I’m seeing a whole product range bags, mugs, Tshirts and of course lots and lots of robot cakes !!!

I keep resisting these competitions, but I’m a really keen baker and always looking for new ideas, so glad I decided to have a look and give it shot. If I don’t win, well no biggie, at least I came across this.
