5×50 Challenge Choose Active, Change Habits, Love It!

Back in 2014 I took part in 5×50 Challenge.  A challenge where you have to walk, run or cycle 5k a day for 50 days.  I completed it.  I surprised myself.  I wanted to take part again in 2015 but being 5 months pregnant I just couldn’t physically complete it.

This year I want to try again.  In preparation, since January I have been trying to complete 6000 steps a day.  6000 steps is approximately 4K.  Most days I hit this and more, some days I’m just short. It takes a little bit more than a wander round the shops to complete.  Thankfully the weather has mostly been in my favour and I get out for extra walks each day. The Robot enjoys looking around when we go, so it’s a bonus for both of us.

5×50 2016 starts on the 27th March when the clocks go forward.  I’m really looking forward to it.  I am not sure how I’m going to cope with that little bit of extra time it’s going to take to do those extra few steps.  I plan to not just walk as this is rather time consuming.  Running and cycling will be key. I’ve tried the Robot in the jogger buggy and on the back of the bike, so I consider this challenge on!


The philosophy behind 5×50 is that exercise should become a habit not a chore.  Ever since taking part in 2014 I have always, especially in the summer, requested evening strolls and morning runs (limps).  Pregnancy took its toll on my body and I have been trying to get my body back to a state I feel happy with it again.  Since doing extra steps I already feel a lot fitter and I think I am in the habit of exercise again.   As a bonus I have been steadily losing 1lb a week too.

My main inspiration behind doing this challenge is my baby Robot.  He isn’t going to stay a baby forever.   I want to be fit for him, I want to show him a good example so he will strive to be fit and healthy too.  Learn by example it a good philosophy.

How am I recording my steps? On my lovely Iphone Health App.  It lives in my pocket and it has been recording my steps per day ever since I have owned it.  January I walked 232660 steps & February 219375.  By the end of the year I hope it’ll be interesting to see the results… will they go up or down?

  1. Wow, go you! I’m very impressed. I am allergic to exercise (that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it) although I do like a nice stroll. Nothing too strenuous though. I love your little bike seat! Xx

      Yay, at least you have a goal in mind! Up until the 27th when the 5×50 started I was strangely excited for it to come so I could start the challenge! Hopefully you’re feeling the same for the 1st of April! Little steps a few times a week though is such a good idea!

      Doing something is good though! I like the challenge of completing something so that is why I’m doing it! Plus 1000’s of other people in the country are doing it too!!

      Thanks! I did the c25k a couple of years ago too, I built up to running 5k then entered a 10k which happened to be the last day of the 2014 5×50 challenge. If was a great way to finish! I’ve not really run since!!
